Description

An image I have been wanting to capture since I started Astrophotography. While not the best capture possible due to imperfect guiding I am pleased with the outcome of the image. Also at 1488mm focal length, I am giving myself a little bit of a pass as this is the first time I have really spent time with the EdgeHD 8 on one object for the night and had some issues along the way.
  • I collimated in the field so it wasn't perfect. I will be buying a Farpoint Bahtinov Focus Mask for Celestron 8" SCT # FP410H which allows for collimation and of course in-focus stars
  • EAF auto-focusing kept overfocusing the stars to doughnut shapes so I had to manually focus the EAF on the Luminance filter and then switch to Ha and the Oii filters
  • WBPP kept failing to align the stars due to issues with star bloat and poor guiding so I had to use DSS to stack the images which was fun to learn as I haven't used DSS since 2020

So yeah not an ideal situation but I worked through the issues and here we are with the final image. Also, I would like to thank Jeff B. for letting me look through his scope to observe NGC7293 as well. It was quite interesting to see the difference in scope to the camera and how faint the object is in the sky with the naked eye.
